The beta release of the new Region VI website on Tuesday, July 8th marks a renewed commitment to technical excellence in the 2008-2009 year. The old static HTML site has been completely overhauled and re-launched under the award winning, database driven "Joomla!" content management system. This open-source software promises to revolutionize the way the NSBE Region VI communicates with and provides services to its constituents. In the weeks to come, we will enhance our design and refine our implementation of the Joomla! system; our design and content will become more graphically rich and the system's functionalities will be expanded to include:
- Project Management - This will allow regional leaders to keep track of their projects, tasks and timelines, and share documents, calendars and other information with their colleagues.
- Job Posting - This will allow regional employers, especially small and medium sized businesses, to directly access NSBE Region VI membership.
- Multimedia Gallery & Platform - This will allow NSBE members and leaders to easily post, view and manage all sorts of media - audio, video, images and mixed-media - as well as easily include them in website content.
- Calendar & Events - This will allow regional members and leaders to easily share their events and news with the region.
- Membership & Community Features - These will allow members to communicate and network with their peers - on this website and through social networking platforms such as Facebook & MySpace - and create and share content on the regional website.
- Tracking & Analytics - This will give regional leaders the information they need to make sure that this website is more than marginal to the goals of the organizations and the needs of its membership.
This is only the tip of the iceberg as far as our plans for using and augmenting this system's robust feature set. We are excited at the possibilities for delivering top notch content and services on a technically cutting-edge and aesthetically pleasing website. We hope that this website will be emblematic of the professionalism and design consistency we expect to see on chapter websites in the coming year.
