My name is Babatunde Onadele, Jr. and I will be serving as your 2011 – 2012 Region VI Chairperson. I am extremely excited to see our membership surpass their potential this year and remind the entire society WHOSE HOUSE this really is! The directives for this upcoming year are Retention & Development, also known as R&D. It is my vision that we utilize the Retention program to help grow our chapters and then programs such as Institute of Chapter Development (ICD) to maintain our chapters and keep them performing at a high level. It is important that every member understands that they make a difference and I truly believe that this is the year that the MIGHTY REGION VI will create the takeover, in the forms of maximizing national scholarship opportunities and career choices. I look forward to meeting you all at RLC and FRC and leaving you with the challenge: WHOSE HOUSE????

Hey Region 6!

My name is Aubree Smith and I am the newly elected secretary. This semester I would like to increase communication between the chapters and increase awareness of schalarships and programs that can benefit chapters and members. This year, within Region 6, we definitely need more outstanding members and chapters and I feel that as a region we can work together to cultivate them. I became a member of NSBE in 2009 and have served as secretary this past year. I was motivated to join REB because I noticed that as a region, we have not done as well as we can with communication between chapters. I also noticed that the members of NSBE that were recieving scholarships and recognition were not really from our region. I know that there is a lot of potential in our region so I will do my best to ensure that the information about scholarships and programs is more easily available to the members within our region so that we can be recognized for the fantastic region we are!

I hope to get my degree in Materials Science and Engineering with an emphasis in Nanoengineering. I would also like to get my masters and hopefully do some type of research or something with energy. I enjoy reading, watching funny movies, spending time with friends and family, and learning new things.

Dear Region 6!!!
I am your 2011-2012 Regional Programs Chair. I have been a member of NSBE for 3 years, and I have been the President of my chapter for the last year and currently. During my term as a the Region 6 Programs Chair, I plan on increasing the amount of chapters who actually implement the current NSBE programs and will do so by making access to information much easier. With the help of my fellow officers, I also plan on being a premier resource to all in our region, helping smaller and less informed/knowledgeable chapters as well as attempt to re-establish former chapters.
I am huge sports fan, I love to watch and play basketball, football, and soccer. I love music and enjoy producing and composing. Please use me as a resource so that we can grow as a region, we will help each other in taking Region 6 and NSBE to the next level.

Hello again Region VI! My name is Ayan Hassan and I am currently your Pre-College Initiative Chair for 2011-2012 year. My experience on the REB last year has helped me grow as a leader and my passion for NSBE has continued burning as well. That is why I chose to run for the position of PCI Chair for our lovely region. I would like to continue the directives that have been implemented by our National Chairman and our chairman Babatunde, pipeline development. We should reach out to the children at an early age and expose them to the STEM fields and the different opportunities they can take advantage of. I am a product of the pipeline; therefore I know that it is possible. I been actively involved in NSBE since my freshman year in college 2007-08, throughout my time I served as the chapter PCI Chair in 2009-2010. I am really excited for the year to come; I would like to activate more NSBE Jr. Chapters within our region. I would also like to get in more contact with active chapters and establish a better relationship with them. An event that I would like to implement is called “PCI Day”. I look forward to serving as your Region VI PCI Chair!

One of my main goals as Northwest Zone Chair is to revamp communication between chapters in the northwest. Since the northwest is spread out among 5 different states, it is hard for us to keep in contact as a zone. I will also work hard to continue implementing one of the main directives of the past zone chairs which is to activate more chapters within the northwest. The northwest is much underrepresented within region 6, and the best way to change that is to increase membership!

My experience with NSBE has consisted of two years of membership. During my first year I was a very active member as a freshman and helped out any way I could. My second year I took a leadership position as chapter Programs chair. I am very passionate about NSBE and the mission statement has really grown into part of my every day goals.

I am working towards my BS in Electrical Engineering, and I will be graduating in June 2013. After I graduate I want to get a job company that will hopefully pay for me to get my MBA after working for them for a couple of years. I enjoy listening to music, eating, working out, and spending time with friends and family.

Dear NSBEians,
My name is Antonio Love and I will be your Region 6 NorCal Zone Chair for the 2011 academic year. My main goal this year is to attend chapter meetings all across the Zone through Skype so that I can witness the passion firsthand and additionally answer questions to be of help as a messenger for the Region and the Society as a whole. I wish to plan at least two zone events that take place on the opposite ends of the zone so that everyone has a chance to see the NSBE Family.

I’ve wanted to be an engineer since the beginning of my adolescence. By 6, my father told me that the process of creating robots, planes, cell phones and cars from my LEGOS was a form of engineering. I must have thought, “Well, I’m going to do that,” because I’ve been forging the engineer’s path ever since with only minor distractions such as lengthy singing sessions and songwriting. Now, here I am today, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of California Berkeley, which again was my father’s doing. He told me that I needed to come here for engineering at the conclusion of my Pop Warner season as a California Golden Bear. Since he was a fan of the school, he enrolled me to play on the team in the fall of 1997.

My academic goals include achieving a Ph. D in Engineering or inorganic chemistry. My interests aresinging, songwriting, basketball andrandom creation. My NSBE experience started in the spring of 2009. I was the Vice President of the Berkeley Chapter for 2009-2010. In the 2010 academic year, I was the Region VI Finance Chair.

Greeting to all NSBE members and especially those residing in Region 6. I have been privileged with being your Regional Finance Chair for the 2011-2012 year. Beginning May 2009, I have been participating in a year round internship for the California State Water Quality Control Board, Santa Ana Region. To obtain my professional goals of systems engineering management and consulting I plan to obtain a Masters and PhD in Engineering Management directly after graduation. Having been a member of NSBE since 2008, I feel it time for me to become more actively involved and contribute to this dynamic Region. I welcome this opportunity and view it as a challenge to ignite pride and a new drive to be efficient and resourceful within Region 6 membership. With the support of the 2011-2012 REB and the many chapters of Region 6 I hope to implement new monetary aid initiatives, awards and requirements. As Finance Chair, I will focus on the development of chapter financial stability and sustainability through fundraising and outreach.

To add a little more about myself: movies, music, cooking, and naps are guaranteed to make my day filled with California sunshine. I am very spontaneous and regularly do activities like jet skiing, snowboarding, going on road trips, and other outdoor type adventures. I love God, my family, my friends and fun. :D

My overarching goal is to make this year’s Fall Regional Conference the best to date. Pulling from the minds of the Bay Area, the conference will be a unique experience for those in attendance. We hope to attract companies that are looking for you harder than you are looking for them and provide attractive discounts while at the conference.

My personal academic goals are to complete my Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering in the next 2 years. I then intend to pursue a Ph.D. in some engineering field that will allow me to explore my interest in renewable, sustainable energy. With my Ph.D., I hope to work in a national lab on implementing new forms of energy.

I have been a member of NSBE since my freshman year, working within my chapter EB as Banquet Coordinator before becoming FRC Chair. I, outside of NSBE, like learning foreign languages, watching movies, saving money, and advocating an environment-friendly society!
